Questions

What is offyougo?

A free UK trip guide that ranks places for one trip: who is coming, when, and what you are into. It covers 64,944 places in 15 national parks, 33 National Scenic Areas, 2 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and 3 National Landscapes so far (Assynt-Coigach, Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), Ben Nevis and Glen Coe, the Cairngorms, the Causeway Coast, the Chilterns, the Cotswolds, Dartmoor, Dornoch Firth, the East Stewartry Coast, Eildon and Leaderfoot, Eryri (Snowdonia), Exmoor, Fleet Valley, Glen Affric, Hoy and West Mainland, Jura, Kintail, Knapdale, Knoydart, Kyle of Tongue, Kyles of Bute, the Lake District, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, Loch na Keal, Isle of Mull, Loch Rannoch and Glen Lyon, Loch Shiel, Loch Tummel, Lynn of Lorn, Morar, Moidart and Ardnamurchan, Mourne, the New Forest, Nith Estuary, North Arran, North West Sutherland, the North York Moors, Northumberland, the Peak District, the Pembrokeshire Coast, River Tay (Dunkeld), Scarba, Lunga and the Garvellachs, Shetland, the South Downs, South Lewis, Harris and North Uist, South Uist Machair, the Surrey Hills, the Broads, the Cuillin Hills, the Small Isles, Trotternish, Upper Tweeddale, Wester Ross and the Yorkshire Dales), and all 15 UK national parks are on its map.

How are places ranked?

By one open formula, the same for every place: how well it fits your group, interests and month, plus quality signals from open data such as food hygiene ratings, heritage listings, Wikipedia pages and photos. Nobody picks or reorders places by hand.

Can a business pay to rank higher?

No. There are no adverts or paid placements, and the formula has no input for money. If affiliate links are added later, they will be marked and will not change the ranking.

Where do the facts come from?

From open datasets: OpenStreetMap, the Food Standards Agency, Historic England, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, NaPTAN and others. Every fact on a page shows its source and the date it was checked, and a fact we do not have is left out rather than guessed.

Do I need an account?

No. Everything is free to use without signing up, and the site sets no cookies.

How it works, in full

Free, and made for the love of the UK

offyougo is free, with no adverts and no paid places. It is made by one person, Pavel, who loves this country, every park, coast, town and back lane of it, and would like people from everywhere on Earth to travel round it more. The servers and the AI that writes the short descriptions cost money every month. If offyougo helped you plan a day out, please consider a one-off gift.

A one-off payment through Stripe, from £2 to £2,000; the receipt comes by email. Or buy Pavel a matcha 🍵 on Ko-fi.
