Your trip, day by day
Making your plan…
Change the trip where from, how long, who, when, what you're into
How this plan is made no hand-picking, no paid places
No one picks these by hand and no one pays to be in them. The same rules make every plan, from the places and roads each area's pages rank:
- The best area for your trip comes first, a little nearer home when it's close. From a town, a trip reaches 90 minutes' drive a day (by train, 80 km a day as the crow flies).
- A ride moves on each day to the best area within 150 km of the last. Other trips stay in one area for up to 4 days, so you don't pack up every morning.
- You sleep in the town with the best stops within 15 km; on a ride, in the town nearest where the day's roads end. Without a car, it's a town with a railway station and stops within 3 km of it, a walk away.
- A day starts with its best stop, then the best ones within 5 km of it, mixing kinds: two stops with children, three otherwise, one fewer on a long day there or home. A ride day takes the best roads within 30 km of each other, in riding order.
- Lunch is the best pub or café near the stops. A day with outdoor stops gets an indoor one to swap in if it rains. A listed building you'd look at rather than visit, such as a station or a church in use, is never a stop; one close by shows as "On the way".
Drive times from home are by car on open roads, with no traffic, from OpenStreetMap; the drive home is taken to be as long as the drive out. Other distances are as the crow flies, so the road is longer. Check opening times on each place's page before you go. How the ranking works.
